The Patiya Project

The entire endeavor is a part of a project sanctioned by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Government of India) and monitored by National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS). The chief objectives of the Project are:

Geo Site

Promotion of a sustainable Geo-tourism model

Geo Site

Augmentation of Agriculture through mitigation of Human Wildlife Conflict

Geo Site

Additional income generation in the village cluster

Geo Site

Water Management

One of the major thrust areas of the project is development of a sustainable geo-tourism model with benefits directed towards the rural community hitherto ignored in the existing tourism planning. From the point of view of the geo- tourists, the project provides an excellent opportunity to learn about various aspects of Himalayan geology through well preserved features in rocks which have been clearly marked for the sake of convenience. By staying in the mountain homes, the tourists also get to learn and experience the village culture and food. The proposed model ensures minimal damage to the fragile Himalayan region and promotes ecologically sustainable tourism besides preserving our geo-heritage.
